When you upload data to MapX, you control who can see it. MapX is built around the principle that your spatial data — your customer locations, site surveys, operational data — belongs to you. Every project is private by default, and access is only granted when you explicitly share it. This page explains how MapX stores your data, who can access it, and what you should consider when working with sensitive datasets.

Data Storage

Your uploaded files (CSV, GeoJSON, Excel) and generated map projects are stored in secure cloud storage with encryption at rest and in transit.
  • All plans use shared cloud infrastructure with logical tenant isolation — your data is kept strictly separate from other users’ data.
MapX retains your files and project data as long as your account is active.

Access Control

All MapX projects are private by default. Your projects and data are never publicly visible, listed, or discoverable — there is no public project setting. Access is granted only through explicit actions you take:
  • Project sharing — you invite specific users by email. Only invited collaborators can open the project.
  • Embed links — you enable embedding and share the token-protected link. Anyone with the link can view the embedded map.
  • Report links — you generate a share link for a report. Anyone with the link can view that report.
You can revoke access at any time: remove a collaborator from Project Share, disable embedding, or stop sharing report links. Nothing is exposed unless you actively share it.

Data Sharing

MapX does not share your uploaded data with third parties. Specifically:
  • Your files are not used to train AI models.
  • AI analysis runs within your project on your data — prompts and results are scoped to your project and are not visible to other users.
  • MapX does not sell, license, or otherwise transfer your data to external organizations.

Sensitive Data Guidance

Projects are always private, but anyone you share a project with — or anyone who receives an embed or report link — can view the data included in it. If your dataset contains personal identifiers (customer names, ID numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, financial records) or is subject to data protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.), only share it with people you trust and review what each link exposes before sending it.
If you are unsure whether your dataset contains sensitive information, err on the side of caution and set the project to private before uploading.
Every project is private by default, so your analysis is never exposed unless you share it. Share only with the people who need to see it.
